Signs of bad church leadership are going to be the same signs for any bad organization, group, family or social setting. There are two kinds of people: those who are good and those who are bad. The good ones are nurturing and recognize another individual as a sacred creation of God. The bad ones are reptilian and only see another person as either a resource to be exploited or those who are unimportant. The distinction of being a church makes no difference in them being either good or bad. In other words, religion attracts as many bad people into its ranks as the spiritual people. This establishes the landscape of church quality.
Now let us look at the person, that is you, who is questioning church quality. Anyone questioning the quality of their church must recognize the importance of how they as an individual see things and feel about things. Seeing things through your own eyes, and feeling your own feelings are supremely important. This is especially true in the religious setting, because of the importance of the congregation in forming how you will see things theologically later on. A misfit of views now will become emotionally damaging to you in your future.
Go by what you see there now and how what you see makes you feel. Those are the first two of what we teach here as your seven spiritual birthrights that all humans have. Seeing things through your own eyes, and feeling your own feelings are the first two. If the church management gives you the feeling that they are on a power trip, and they have the right to tell you how to see or feel about things, then it is bad. If they are not supportive and attentive to your emotional state and needs, that is also bad. If there is a social requirement for mimicking their behaviors such as types of dress, lifestyle, ways of speech, or views about outsiders that is bad as well. You are not a mirror of them, they are to be a nurturer of you.
Bad churches are excellent at hiding their true parasitic and cult characteristics. They often emphasize the purity and exclusivity of their doctrine as a reason for their bad poisoning nature. In a nutshell if what you will feel is a cultlike quality, feeling, and nature about who they are, if they demand you look at everything like them, that is very bad. In cult settings, there is a complete disregard for your individuality and any uniqueness you may bring into their social group. They are not interested in what your contribution to their group might be, they are only interested in growing their little power trip world of robot believers like themselves and making you one of them.
Obsession is a strong characteristic which they wear like a pair of glasses as they look at everything. This is also how they expect you to see things as well. One popular characteristic is the ‘abstain from the appearance of evil’ mandate place upon all their relationships. They love formality and coldness, and there are only certain channels and protocols allowed by which relationships can be formed. Anything informal, open, authentic and genuine is viewed with suspicion and criticism. They do not want your openness and your warmth as only you know how to share it; They want your mental obedience and copying of their model of religious expression, and nothing more. They do not worship God; they worship submission of individuality.
Living in a bad church setting will leave you feeling ignored, unseen and leave you feeling like an audience to their grandiosity. All this is subjectively communicated, but you will feel it strongly and loudly. A den of snakes does not make much noise or commotion, but you will feel it immediately if you get close to one and peer into it. If you have searched for a loving church setting for yourself and to grow ties with your local community, you will undoubtedly encounter multiple dens of snakes before you find a good church. So, what does a good church feel like?
When you enter a good church setting, it will feel like a garden plot of the richest black soil you could ever imagine, and you are a flowering vegetable plant seeking a place to grow. This garden plot will have plenty of moisture, sunlight, and an abundance of insects welcoming you into it. There will be lady bugs and praying mantises hungry for the insects that will hurt you. There will be an abundance of butterflies and honeybees anxious for your nectar and to pollenate you with other likeminded plants’ pollen. Birds will nest in your branches and fertilize the soil around you. There will be an abundance of sunny days and refreshing breezes and showers of rain. Your roots will grow strong and deep in the rich social soil. A good church setting is waiting out there for you to find close by. In that setting, you will be able to grow, bloom, blossom, and bear fruit. And your flowers will be enjoyed by all the other plants blooming there. Your world will be rich and full for you and your family. The sun will shine long on you there.
